24"x11"x5" pannier with hooks on back and roll-top closure. Ideal for groceries or your office commute, this simple pannier can carry it all.

Handmade with love in West Broadway from found/recycled/up-cycled materials. Special thanks the incredible donations of secondhand material from Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, Contempra Signs, ArtsJunktion and Freedom Concepts Inc.

The vinyl donated by the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ has a wonderful backstory: it comes from repurposing the beautiful artwork that is installed annually in downtown to mark the Chinese New Year. We are so grateful to have such a uniquely artistic ever-changing material source to work from.

Whatever bag or material you choose, know that it is made of something special and comes from the heart.

This project was inspired by and created in collaboration with Winnipeg Trails' Goal 5 Project.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you would like to order a specific colour or material, we recommend coming into our store at 267 Sherbrook St. and speaking with one of the sewing specialists about your choice of fabric.

If you want the waterproof vinyl bag made from the repurposed chinatown banners, just send us a quick email to say so. The bags are time consuming to produce, and are currently being made to order until we can develop enough stock to stay ahead of all the orders.

Read on for the whole story:

In 2020, Winnipeg Trails started a unique project - The Goal 5 Bike Project - which was a plan to knock down barriers to cycling for racialised women. About 100 newcomer and Indigenous women benefited from empowerment and training on bicycling and repairs. Over time, the women reported to us that they need more than a bicycle – they needed to carry a load of groceries and other necessities. From this request, the idea of our unique bike pannier was born. Our panniers are made from recycled and locally sourced materials, and manufactured at the Bicycle Garden. These panniers make shopping easier and more convenient, but we aim to create more than a product; tapping into the craft and business skills of Goal5 participants. Our business approach is community-oriented and collaborative and aims at developing micro-revenue streams for newcomer and Indigenous women while supporting the sustainable development of a new social enterprise with far reaching impacts on localised transportation. With every bag purchased, a woman is able to discover and use her powerful craft and business skills. Each pannier sold is an incentive for a bike rider to travel more with their bike and with the comfort of a bag that makes their travel and shopping experiences better.
